A second million for Alex Selby?

Alex Selby, a mathematician from Cambridge recently solved the "eternity"
puzzle (see MSO world)
winning himself a cool one million pounds (approx 1.6 million US dollars). His next project is
to write a Go playing program! Maybe he'll get the Ing prize too!
So you thought Alan Scarff had retired..?
Alan Scarf was a regular competitor in computer go events in the early days with his program "Microgo",
but seemed to have gone into retirement in about 1990. I recently met his son Cristian who told me
that Alan was still beavering away at computer go full time!

One of the Wulu team, Lu Jin Qiang, splits off to write his own program "GoStar".
Anders Kierulf quits Microsoft to become full time go programmer
Anders Kierulf, who has worked on computer go in the past, has decided to quit a high powered job at Microsoft in
order to become a full time Go programmer! He says that he is taking it seriously and hopes to catch up
with the top programs in about three years time.
5 Million Dollar Hoax!
Sam Sloan reported that an American Professor was offering a 5 Million Dollar
prize for the first Go program to beat a 5 dan player. It turned out to
be completely untrue.
