Results of the 1994 North American Computer Go Championship
This year only 4 programs entered the computer go tournament. There
are about 4 programs that didn't enter due to exams, money, or vacation
time constraints, and about 3 new programs that weren't quite ready. I
hope we can see a larger turnout next year in Seattle.
Since there were only 4 programs, we had a 6 round double round robin,
with each program playing each other program twice. Results are:
1st: Go Intellect, by Ken Chen. 6 wins
2nd: Many Faces of Go, by David Fotland 4 wins
3rd/4th Tie, with 1 win each:
Riscigo, by Bruce Wilcox
Contender, by Lynn Beus
Go Intellect had solid wins over Many Faces, by 43 and 79 points, even though
no big groups died in either game. Many Faces and Go Intellect each had
big wins over the other two programs by killing large groups. Riscigo is
Bruce's new go program, rewritten from scratch in 6 months. It looks quite
good for such a young program.
